Custom plastic molding is the process of making plastic parts with an injection-molding machine. Injection molding is an economical and efficient manufacturing process that can be used to make large quantities of the same or similar parts. The process starts by making a metal mold of the part. A mold consists of two blocks of metal, typically steel or aluminum, that are machined to create a cavity on each side. The two sides of the mold are then brought together in the injection-molding machine. The machine shoots molten thermoplastic into the mold to fill the cavity. After the part has cooled, the mold is opened, the part is ejected, and the process starts over.
