The MIM process consists of four main steps
Feedstock Mixing
Ensuring feedstock homogeneity is critical. The feedstock is composed of ultra-fine metal powders (typically under 22 microns) that are carefully mixed with polymeric binders at high temperatures. This uniform mixture is then cooled and granulated to form the feedstock material, which is subsequently fed into the molding machine.
Molding
Many of MIM’s advantages are realized during the molding step. Complex contours, holes, fine radii, logos, and text can be directly molded into the part. During this step, the feedstock is heated and injected into the mold, forming the part. The process results in virtually no material waste and relies heavily on automation—reducing manual handling and ensuring a consistent, cost-effective manufacturing solution.


Catalytic Debinding
We utilize advanced catalytic debinding technology—the most efficient method available. Using polymer chemistry, a catalyst removes approximately 90% of the binder from the molded "green" part while maintaining its shape and dimensional integrity. The resulting component, called a "brown" part, is a porous structure made of metal powder with just enough remaining binder to retain its form.
Sintering
In the final step, brown parts undergo sintering under a controlled temperature and atmospheric profile tailored to the specific alloy. At the lower end of the sintering cycle, any residual binder is eliminated. As the temperature rises, the metal particles fuse together, reducing porosity and forming a dense, solid structure.
